Our primary goal at Northlake Animal Hospital is to improve the health and quality of life of your pet. To achieve this goal, we are constantly challenging ourselves to improve our methods by acquiring the latest technology and practices that have proven effective. As part of this process, we are excited to provide our patients with laser therapy for dogs, innovative and painless treatment to improve the health of your pet.
Laser therapy involves the use of a highly concentrated beam of light to stimulate cell growth, regeneration, and healing. As your pet’s skin is bathed in the light of the laser, the skin itself absorbs the energy and uses it to increase cellular activity. This causes the cells responsible for expediting the healing process to activate, which has a wide range of medical benefits.
The quick answer to this question is no, it does not hurt. At most, your pet will experience a rather pleasant and warm sensation over the treatment area. Different pets have different levels of melanin and pigmentation on their skin which could mean they feel warmer than others. However, the treatment is applied in passing meaning at no point will the light ever concentrate long enough over any given area to cause any discomfort.
Laser therapy is not just effective, it’s also fast! A typical treatment lasts between three to six-minute per treatment area. If multiple sites require treatment, the entire process can be completed in a single visit. Of course, the length of treatment will depend on the type of injury or malady being treated. While small cuts can be addressed in as little as one treatment, deeper wounds and lacerations can take multiple therapies. For everyone’s safety, if you are present in the room, you’ll receive eye protection, and yes, that includes your pet!
Northlake Animal Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and the expertise to keep your pet healthy and happy for a lifetime. If you want to learn more about our laser therapy for dogs, contact us today!
